Emerging from the ideas of a couple of blokes back in 1996, the Barra Nationals has developed into one of, if not the, premier fishing tournament on the Australian calendar. Yet even through its meteoric rise it has not lost its origins or the reasons it began and that is to - provide a world class fishing tournament for the average fishing fraternity.

That it has been able to do this and year after year deliver the experience of a lifetime, is unrivaled and a credit to the Palmerston Game Fishing Club and the event co-ordinators over the last ten years.

Since its inception this “catch and release” event has been conducted on the Northern Territories famous Daly River. The ability of the Palmerston Game Fishing Club to overcome the logistical nightmares to accommodate, feed and entertain 150 + people over 250 kilometers out of Darwin is something this event has become renowned for. Mind you with backdrops like the BANYAN FARM for the venue and one of the most picturesque rivers in Australia for the playing field it does make the job a whole lot easier.

Whether you’re a novice or a die hard “sleep with your rod n reel” fishing nut – once you’ve experienced the fantastic food, outrageous nightly entertainment and the camaraderie developed over one of the best weeks of fun you could ever have – you’ll want to come back year after year.
