Nationals 2006 Results
Well this years Barra Nationals has been run and won. This years event was run with the highest river levels ever experienced during an event on the Daly River. Despite some teething problems with the boat ramp which were sorted very quickly by Wally and Kerri, as the river dropped the competitors were soon on the water and found a satisfying number of huge fish throughout the week. With 17 fish over the metre mark and another 33 in the 90 to 99cm range it was a big fish bonanza. The total for the week was “only†691. This low number of fish came about due to very few small fish being caught as the river levels probably allowed the them to remain up the creeks out of range.
Early in the week both Polar Bears and Team Halco provided the running with several other teams also within reach. As the levels dropped and fish became harder to find the positions closed up considerably. With scores not being placed on the board on the 4th night there was a great deal of conjecture, misleading information and probably downright lies being spread as to who had caught what and when.
When the final scores were in and tallied it was once again those old salts the Gold Cans who prevailed. Coming from behind on the last day with the biggest fish of the week going to Buffalo, this fish also allowed him some bragging rights as the old fellas in the team had well and truly whipped his ample body for the week.
Champion visiting team and once again thinking about wearing the bridesmaids dresses were Team Halco. Trevor and his merry band of men once again falling short for outright honors. Keep at it Trev one day mate.
Champion Mixed team was taken out by NT Powercom with Ken Brown at the helm.
Champion Local team was Honeys Money skippered by Greg Miller.
Champion Angler was Dean Lovegrove from Honeys Money with Sam Eyles and Eric Jones close behind.
